The United States jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they cruised to an easy 82-61 victory against Puerto Rico in the U-19 World Basketball Championships in New Zealand.
KU guard Tyshawn Taylor played 21 minutes and went 4-of-13 from the field for 8 points. Taylor also picked up two rebounds, two steals and five assists in the game, which was played at 3:30 a.m in a country just across the International Dateline.
Taylor had three attempts from behind the arc, but saw none fall home. Taylor made no trips to the charity stripe.
Georgia's Howard Thompkins III led all scorers with 14 points in just over 18 minutes.
The USA now is assured a berth in the quarterfinals regardless of its match-up Wednesday with Lithuania, which will begin in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, about 2:30 a.m. Lawrence time, in the United States.

2 steals and 5 more dimes.
Can we get a stat sheet? How about a link to a live feed?
Pics? Anything? Surely somebody is taking videos and pics.

AP's not covering it with photos and, unfortunately, the budget's just there to cover one player in Auckland, N.Z. I'll see if there's a NZ news org interested in a swap of some sort.

Not sure I'm feeling the Headband from Tyshawn but we'll see if he wears that next year at KU.

Leading the team in assists and 4th in points (above Seth Curry, I'd like to point out).
Not bad.
Also, 3.8 assists per game, 2.25 TOs. I can live with that.

Welll it finally appears they willg et some competition.... Lithuania is probably the other team worht it in this Bracket.....
Great start however the shooting numbers are a bit nerve racking..... 0-3 from three point land could mean trouble....
no worries though.....

I didn't realize coach Self had a no headband rule. Thanks for the info Jayhawker413. I think that is a great rule because the headbands look tacky.

Who cares how a head band looks if it is functional. Some people might not like sweat in their eyes. Should we ban high socks too because they look tacky? What about those big long arm covers (I think it is some kind of compression garment or brace) Sheron wears, some people might think those look tacky? High socks and arm covers might serve a function for some players, even if it is just comfort.
I can understand a coach wanting some uniformity among the team, but it wouldn't be that hard for HCBS to have the athletic sponsor provide a decent looking head band that he could let players wear. If there a source you can provide where HCBS has actually stated they aren't allowed?
I don't care for head bands myself but I don't think a rule against them is necessary.

Come on, now--someone posted "0-3 from 3pt range, could be a sign of trouble". Really? 1 game? He was 36-37% 3pt entire freshman year at KU--that is the more telling stat. Ive been playing this game over 20yrs, and am a 45% trey shooter, but there are days where I am 0-for-6 or 1-for-8...Not a sign of trouble. Just come back fresh the next day.

The fact he went 4-for-13 for FGs tells me he either was looking to score, or was told to try to score, or perhaps in reading the defense, that was the logical in-game decision. I think TT "getting a taste" of 13 shot attempts is a tremendous step in his growth and comfort level on the court. Hopefully when he gets back with the KU team (players who know each other way, way better than the U19 team), his confidence and productivity & accuracy will blossom.

ralster.... if we lose a close game and he shoots 0-3 from three point land.... i will remind you of this..... it's that that i think he can hit 'em...... it's that i want to see him them every night....... mayeb that's selfish of me... but he has to be able to shoot the rock at .40 clip to get in the game..and he has to do it on few strokes....
he's not going to get 13 shot attempt a game this year..... and if he does.... Someone's either hurt or in major trouble......
he can't go 0-3 and expect to get 3 more in the second half to even out the stroke.... he's going to have to be a microwave.....
I would rather see 1-3 every night than 0-3 2-6 7-11 4-4..... i want consistancy..... by march i expect him to have that or CJ is more than likely starting....

Second, the comment about C.J. starting ahead of Tyshawn is just ridiculous.

The real stat line to follow is the turnovers. Either he didn't have any or LJW is self-censoring after all the harsh criticism about t.o.'s the other day.
Nice work TT. Take advantage of your time on this time. You've earned it.

Timmay..... it's a reality...... he misses open threes we can't afford to have him out there..... and CJ's looking for minutes...... ridiculous or not.... Self's going to put the best 5 guys out there he can..... if taylor's play and Cj's are even comparable.... ( which Carl Henry suggests they are...... Carl would suggest Cj's better... ) and cj hits open 3's...... Tyshawn might be headed for the bench..... the lithuania stats were good news..... tyshawn's learning to close ball game's like a point guard should, BUT
0-1 from Three.....
I said in another thread.....i noted, i want consistancy out of him.... 0-1 and 0-3 are not the consistancy i want to see..... i like the fact he doesn't jack up 4-6 a game...... but if he doesn't have that range this year.... there are other proven shooters who DO, and who won't be starting ( Reed, Morning star ).... and one guy who is desperate to go to the NBA with his ( bigger ) little brother.

Wow, wayward.
I'll echo Timmay's original comments and mention that it hurts my head to try to read whatever it is you're trying to type out. Ellipses are not a common punctuation used for a reason.
As for interpreting your comments:
Consistency is not measured over a 2- or 3-game stretch. It's measured over months. Even then, everyone can have an off game and miss that one important bucket to send it into overtime.
I'm more worried about the season to put us in a position to win it all than I am looking for a repeat of Mario's Miracle, specifically.

k_easthouse..... the osmonds said you'e a little bit country and im a little bit rock and roll.... in this case.... your a little bit ( what music you listen to ) and im a little bit radiohead.....
I get it.... sometimes im hard to understand.... ( and im a poor typist )
Consistancy.... is doing the same things as often ... shooting a jumpshot from 21 feet is not the easiest thing to consistantly shoot..... shooting it guarded is often harder ( though it makes some shoot it better ) There was some saying back in the day you hit 50 % in practice you should be able to translate about 35-40 in Game.....
right now.... according to their stats..... he is shooting 27.3 from three point land in the 6 games thus far.....even if you factor the line potentially being farther back ( international plays wiht different rules ).... he's not hitting te perimeter jumper anywhere near where we will need him to be come November..... and you don't just pick up distance over night.... it takes practice.......
he shoots 27.3 in Kansas Games and you would be burning torches and chasing him with pitchforks..... people did that for Aaron Miles ... case in point.....
6 games is not a long time..... it's not alot of shots either.... but.... it's a tick..... somethign that might be a tell of signs to come.... i hope he blows my doors off..... but right now...... he is consistantly showing in this tourney for whatever reason he is missing that shot......
So let me wait to see 4-5 or 3-3 or 1-1 consistantly to settle myself about this, nes pas ?
